Types of Bets in Poker-Based Games

The one who placed the big blind is the only one allowed to rise on the first round if no one wants to rise, this is called an option. To raise means to increase the bet needed to stay in the pot, which requires all players to call that amount if they want to stay in the game. To fold is to lose interest in the pot and discard one hand, which happens if you have a weak hand. Folding is also called mucking when a player already tends to discard a hand face-down.

Forced Bets

In poker, it is important to learn about the forced bets since all variants use these. An ante is a forced bet wherein all players place an equal share of money into the pot prior to the deal. Ante is the forced bet used in stud and draw pokers, since most community card pokers use blind bets. Blind bets or simply a blind is used in the popular Texas Hold’em poker. Two blinds are commonly used but there is a variation that uses three blinds, the last one being paid by the dealer. Bring-in is also a type of forced bet which happens after cards are dealt initially, and prior to any other action. This is commonly used in stud poker and is assigned to the first round of betting when the player’s exposed card shows the lowest.
